I wouldn't know as I've never seen the show or match or whatever. But if you really want to know the answer I'm sure your friend Glenn Beck will be glad to inform you. That way you wouldn't have to actually expend any effort to come up with an answer yourself or do any real research.

The really scary thing about this mentality is the public health aspect. Communicable diseases don't care if you have health insurance or not. They don't care if you are able too work or not. Look at what happen during the outbreak of Spanish flu. It killed as many as 50 million people.

my mother's whole family caught that in the fifties. They all survived but my mother said she recalled how miserable it was. she nearly died from it, and she said she spent weeks in bed, my grandparent were too poor to get medical treatment. she said that all she could do was lay there and stare at the ceiling, and thrive in pain, and hallucinate because the fever was so high.

Yes, that was the Asian flu epidemic that hit. It was awful. It was descended from the Spanish flu tat caused the 1918 pandemic. Terrifying.

Chickened, I am not making you out to be anything. You are doing that very well on your own.

So your latest eligibility test seems to be that people who pay taxes should get assistance from the government. Since all Americans pay taxes, than you really should have no problem with universal health care. But again, you seem to believe that only you have a right to assistance. You deserve to have other taxpayers pay for your gas, your electricity, your internet, your retirement, your roads, your feed, your health care and so on.

It's not a position I find defensible.

pips&peeps :

Not all americans pay taxes.......................

Lots of them live off the taxes others pay..............

I'm sorry, but I believe you are mistaken. Which Americans do not pay taxes?

I would think that people that raise chickens would understand REAL life.

For those of you that don't, let me tell you that it isn't always fair. Sometimes, hard working people have to work harder to make ends meet, while life does seem easier for others. If you choose to raise a family, you should be able to provide for said family and not just put a hand out and expect others to carry your load....Why is this such a disliked concept? Our Grandparents weren't as quick to hold out their hand...they had something called a work ethic and a pride in what they accomplished themselves. Those that truly need a hand are not going to get it if we keep trying to take more and more from the "have's" to give to the "have not's", and WORSE, the "need not's" that take anyway. Many of the "poor" in this country still have beer, cigarettes and a cell phone. That's not mean to say...it's common sense. And I travel the USA, too, but I live here, so I don't need a foreigner telling me how it is...if you don't like the way things are in this country...there's always China and many other communist countries to choose from. Not that anyone that complains ever REALLY leaves....

It may not look like I am a compassionate person by this post, but compassion can only be taken advantage for for so long before it ends. This is why this country is FED-UP. And those of you that rail against the rich need to remember where all of the money for these social programs come from....and when you stop asking nicely and demand...well, it doesn't end well. (That's why we are spiraling the drain)

No, the reason we're spiraling down the drain is because the pervasive attitude in this country is "I got mine, sucks to be you." Compassion and empathy have been replaced with cynicism and disgust for those less fortunate. And MY grandparents did give willingly and without judgment to those that asked for or didn't ask for help. Grandma said "A good man could never sleep warm in his bed with a full belly knowing that his neighbor was cold or hungry." The went without Christmas presents one year and sold a cow to buy food for a family. Grandma said they had all they NEEDED and the things they WANTED didn't matter if there were others that were in need.

Y'know, all those people who don't buy things in stores, or use gas, or have electricity, or use a phone......

My grandparents took advantage of a public education, the GI Bill, the excellent public schools for their children's education, and very generous government programs to send those children to college as well as government provided health care and SS. I certainly hope your grandparents did as well.

Poverty is relative and being poor in America is much better than being poor in a developing nation, but I think you sell our nation short if that is the best that we should expect as the wealthiest nation in the world.

The only person who has mentioned the rich and whether or not they pay their way is chickened so perhaps you two might have a dialog around that issue. I confess to little interest in its outcome.

How dare you suggest that I, or any other American should leave our own country! My family has been here since before it was a country. I love my country and I want to make it better. That is true patriotism. I would appreciate an apology for that remark.

Precisely.
