The link I posted also connected the use of contraceptives with the countries or lack of as a contributing factor to birth rates which in turn effects infant mortality in or out of the womb (not really sure which is being referred to here).

The average # of children is not surprising demographics wise. Having more children is unofficially frowned upon in the smaller European countries.

The statistics are based on deaths per thousand births...so birth rate is part of the equation.

I always thought you had more kids when you had more pregnancies. The countries with the highest birth rates according to the map I posted are in Africa and I am not sure there is much planning involved. People are going to have sex frequently in any country at the same rates and contraceptives if available will curtail potential pregnancies and that seems to be a larger factor, look to the countries that support the idea and then the map and decide for yourself.

If it was not for these random ramblings threads there would be no one on here to respond to any of the "need help" threads. They bring people to the website an help keep them here. If they were not here everyone would only be on here when they needed help an no one would be on to give it. I can't see only sticking around JUST for those at all. I stick around because there is SO Much I want to learn yet about my breeds (Breeds section is GREAT) and I also want to help those who need it (because I have been there).​

I think much is tied to the education of women, but birthrates are certainly one. I'm posting the Wikipedia map for literacy, since the other maps have been from there, and they use the pretty colors.

An additional link is the men to women literacy rates. Basically, worldwide, 66% of those who are illiterate are women. Educating women is also one of the most important factors worldwide for economic growth.

Got pneumonia this past week.

After multiple trips to the doctor. And then $60 worth of prescription meds and another $40 in over the counter things like cough drops etc.....


Got equipment through my insurer....

Had an understanding boss so I was able to take a few days off of work.

If I did not have all of that....... a good job, flexible boss, extra cash to come up with the money and insurance for everything else.......






How many families get pushed over the edge by one illness?

Far too many have. Every year the local paper sponsors families in need, all nominated by local charities. This year every family had a major illness or injury. There was everything from cancer and heart disease to cerebral palsy and premature birth. I've also seen it other places. All it really takes is one major illness, without insurance. My neighbors, who have worked all their lives, live in fear that something will happen to one of their uninsured, twenty-something sons, and will wipe them out. They pay for major medical insurance with a $10,000 deductible for that very reason.
