They are super common and not protected. This heifer has kittens too. I've seen their little toebean prints in the mud after a rain. Much too young to be helping mom hunt yet, but I'm super over them. Like I was so upset last night I was debating selling everything.
We have five plus fox families in the area. And this year we have had five attacks and lost 20 or more birds in each attack. Giving up and selling everything is tempting at times.
