Dont we have a fish guy/gal?

I have discovered a very unique way of treating fish illness. I go to the store and buy one of everything and dump them all in the tank.If they survive that then they are superfish . LOL Seriously, No one at the walmarts knows what to sell you so its a guessing game for me. I ask my son, does that fish have spots or stripes or ??

You need to find someone like me. I got lots of stuff I don't use anymore. Those fish swaps would be a good place.
Yes, that would be awesome. I have been checking that marketplace out on FB. Matter of fact thats where I got one of the tanks. Got another at goodwill and one I have had forever .

I agree. They are gone now. I live in the boonies and there is one fish store about an hr drive from here and half their fish is sick.
It isn't the hobby it once was. Many are into salt water tanks these days. I mostly keep goldfish because they are hardy and long lived, but I do enjoy some tropical fish. It is always a crap shoot if they will survive or not when I get new ones so I buy extras often. The whole process is so stressful on the poor little things being shipped and netted all over the place. I'm surprised anything survives the process.

Have you seen these new filters, lights and heaters ? Its been 12 yrs since I messed w/ fish but things sure have changed. Dont wash your filters or toss them, rinse them in fish water. The lights will blind you and they can change colors and throw air bubbles out . The filter sits in the tank now taking up room, the heaters are not adjustable...

I can see some of that. Thats why we need local hobbyists .

Planted tanks are a lot of work. It is hard to balance light and nutrients and keep algae at bay. I had a sudden die back of plants, water tested fine, fish doing great....then I decided it was too much algae. I cut back on light and it helped, but I still had algae. I transferred about 25 cherry shrimp over from another tank and a few days later algae was gone! I couldn't believe how well they cleaned it up. I have used medications for disease, but for the columnaris I successfully got rid of it with salt in quarantine tank and daily partial water changes. I had 2 types of medicated food and also tried medications that you add to the water. It didn't budge until I started changing water daily. Once it was cleared up I just gradually cut back the water changes.

I keep my pet stuff forever!!! My tanks sat in my basement for about 15 years. I pulled them out and added some new accesories and went from no tanks to 3 on a few months. You never know when you might get that itch again!
