so my phonix have given us 5 eggs now and I worry everytime she starts it seems like it takes a long time she keeps moving around like it hurts her is this normal egg laying behavor. watching her makes me feel guilty about eating eggs now if she is in pain.

I don't know about pain, but chickens lay eggs all the time. I liken it to daily childbirth.

It looks like work, but that's what they do.

It doesn't hurt them because my hens have layed huge eggs that won't even fit in XXL egg boxes while they are walking in my garden. It's more a daily habit that they do no matter what.

There's no stopping the laying...their bodies produce the eggs continually so they have to come out. I liken the "procedure" some of them go through as just habit...like a dog turning around a few times before lying down. In cases, the process may be uncomfortable for them, but it's likely not painful...of our 6, we have 2 that make a big deal of it, and the other 4 are quite matter of fact. LOL

Not to worry, and enjoy the eggs! :)
