I have 3 barred rock chicks (6 weeks) - they are the ones that I kept because I thought they were cockerels (the pullets had much darker feathering).

A bit confused about one of them, who seems to have a much smaller comb, doesn't have the rooster "stance", but has the same double barred feathers (except maybe a bit darker on the head). Legs seem smaller too.

Is it possible it might be a pullet with that colouring?
Or just a slow developing roo?

They come from a reputable breeder.

Thoughts please!

I didn't know how to post pictures, so pictures are here:

I agree. That much pink in the comb says "cockerel". He is smaller; could be lack of vigor; the runt, per se. Give him a couple weeks, he should catch up. :)

Thanks, I initially thought roo, maybe just being hopeful, but seems it's unanimous...
Interesting about the double barred gene, didn't know that.

Thanks everyone

Follow up- here are both of my 5 week old barred rocks. Both cockerel?
