Double fencing for run?

This is a potentially silly question that occurred to me while on vacation, and since I have wifi on the ship…
I’m planning to enclose the run in HC, sides and top. I remember reading somewhere that HC is good for raccoons, weasels, rats and so on, but less so for canids like foxes, dogs and coyotes. The recommendation I’d seen was a double layer at the bottom (like the bottom three feet) with HC and welded wire fencing. Is that a thing? And if it is a thing, which layer would go on the outside? Our chicken set up is a good way from the house, so I’m just looking to make it as secure as possible.

Hardware cloth goes on the hostile side of any strength fencing such as heavy duty welded wire. The hostile side is the outside of any existing fence in this case.

So elsewhere someone had said chicks could get stuck between the layers if the welded wire was on the outside. Thoughts?

I don't understand what you mean. Need to be clear about what you are calling welded wire and what you are calling hardware cloth.
If the welded wire (the heavy gauge fencing) is on the outside then any chicks would have to get through the hardware cloth to get stuck between the welded wire and the hardware cloth.
Reverse the above (hardware cloth on the outside) which is the correct way to have fence. Could a chick get caught between the two layers? Not if they are fitted properly.

You’d said the hardware cloth went on the “hostile” or outside of the other fencing (welded wire), so that’s why I was asking about a chick getting through. If the HC goes on the outside, the question doesn’t apply, of course. I guess what I’m looking for here is the reasoning behind which fencing goes on the outside.
