Yesterday and the day before I have a coturnix hen that just started laying, .both eggs were hugh 21 grams and double yokes. Does anyone know if this hen will always lay double yokes? If the egg was fertile and hatched would it be a very large chick or 2 chicks? Thanks for your replies.

It is likely that she will keep laying them. I had some that always laid a double yoke while others laid them once in a while. The double yoke always came from the same one's.

I've never tried to hatch one. I cull my eggs the best I can do those go to the eating pale.

I saw a youtube video of someone who had to help twins out of an egg. They were slow and careful and the hatch was successful.

I saw a different but interesting video opening a freshly laid HUGE egg that had inside of it: a yolk and white AND
a fully shelled normally formed second egg. I believe the outermost shell was rubbery. But it was giant.

I had a chicken egg one time that was huge. It was like a goose egg. When we opened it there was another hard shell inside it still large & in it was another & another. There was 7 shells total with a tiny bit of white in the last egg. It has been years but if I remember right there wasn't a yoke at all. Only the outer two shells was hard. I think the last egg was about dime size.

Also if I remember right this came from one of my Cornish X birds. They didn't lay very often. At best one a week but were usually quite large. But not that grate tasting.
