My hen laid 4 eggs in 4 days and all with double yolks, then she stopped laying altogether. I know this because I was hoping to collect them to incubate and candled them. Then cracked them open. She is not even a year old yet. Gets all the good feed and oyster shells, so that can't be it. Is not visibly molting. I have searched everywhere for eggs and even kept her in the run to see if she would lay. I thought it maybe the heat but that is over and she still won't lay. So I am stumped as to what is up with her. She is a pure light Sussex and is full of life and heathy, just hasn't laid any eggs for a month now. ☹

Wow, that is quite a while. The heat could definitely have had an impact but now that it's over the days are also getting shorter since winter is coming. If she's eating and healthy I'd wait to see how things go and assume she's fine. She's still young and could produce for you again in the spring.

Sometimes they take a break. Being she was laying double yolks her body was out of wack in the egg machine. She was getting ready to rest. As long as she is healthy she should start up again before winter or won't start again till spring.?

Well the first time about a month or so ago, I kept them all in 2 days, because I suspected she was hiding them somewhere then 2 days, about a week ago kept them all in the run, was torrential rain and thought they could stay out of it. She is the only one who lays light coloured eggs, so unless she lays brown ones all of a sudden, she has stopped. Anyway 1 egg a day sucks, but soon the younger ones should start laying at least, but I don't want their eggs for incubation, I wanted hers...go figure she pulled this stunt just as I was ready to collect her eggs. :barnie
