Double yolk incubation

So I'm incubating coturnix quail eggs and one of the eggs is about 2 times larger than the others.... My question is, can only one yolk be fertilized and not the other? If so what would happen? And I know that I'm taking risks with a double yolker, but a bear ate the majority of my previous quail and I had to incubate the only eggs I have. Thanks everyone!

yes, it is possible for one yolk to become fertilized. if that is the case, the unfertilized egg will be absorbed by the growing embryo as protein and enzyme. this will not hurt the fetus. you may have to help the chick out as it will probably not be able to break through the shell because it is not confined as tightly as it is under normal circumstance. interested to see what happens. let me know!
