Double yolker - RIP little ones... Photos added of the egg opened

Call in, you are feeling chilled, and running a fever, you'll try to make it in if you feel better!

I will have to go in to work tomorrow ( its now 11.30 pm here in Australia ) ... I wont be missing too much anyway. Not much else I can do to help these guys for a while yet since they are still absorbing yolk and blood from the veins. As it happens I REALLY do have quite a bit of pain from one of my wisdom teeth. It has been a little bit sore during the afternoon- and now its more than just a dull ache. I may have to make a dentists appointment. I have had a lot of trouble with them over the years... But this time - although painfull...I am really hoping it gets really bad.

I cant believe I am happy to have a tooth ache!!

Well then there you go, there is your legitimate and honest excuse, but stretch it a bit. LOL, I know I have a lot of respect for you and you being honest, we all are giving you a hard time. I hope if they are born you don't plan on selling them, how could you part with such a miracle!

I finally, after all these years (I'm 37), had to have my wisdom teeth removed. They gave me trouble off and on for years and finally I did the calculation and realized that as often as I was in pain from them, it would pay off to get the pain all over with at once and just have them taken out. It was not fun. Ask for the laughing gas. They did not give me any at all during the six hours that they were cutting teeth out of my mouth and sucking blood up through a vacuum. I cried all the way home. Ask for laughing gas.

Of course, if you have the teeth removed, you will no longer have a ready-made excuse to stay home at hatching time.

And I want to add that since this is a public, very busy, highly visible online forum, OF COURSE no one is seriously suggesting that you actually lie to your employer or even exaggerate a bit. You would never do such a thing. Your job is more important than an egg, which can jolly well wait until you get home to deal with it.

But if that tooth is really bugging you, you probably ought to get a hot pack and some aspirin and go to bed. If you should happen to take a peek at your incubator from time to time, nobody will fault you for that.

I agree about taking a rest because of your tooth. I have all my wisdom teeth (I'm in my 40s), but one has a really deep cavity that may need a root canal in the future. It bothers me off and on, but not badly. If yours is in need of a root canal, you are probably hurting a LOT most of the time, so I think that's a legitimate excuse to take time off work, unless you work at one of those places where the work and workload would suffer a lot if you were gone. Make the appointment for that day or for Wednesday, if you can.

The little ones didnt make it. I woke at 4am when a duckling in the hatcher beside my bed was peeping its little head off- and went to check the twins...but sadly- no veins could be seen. I did open the egg and was surprised at what I saw. I took lots of photos and will put some up tonight after work for those who are interested.

I was so worried about the one towards the back of the egg- but that little one was more likely to have made it. Unfortunately the front duckling had its head tucked facing down and would never have pipped the egg from that position.

It is sad- and in a way I feel I have let down so many people...all you you that have read this thread - so sorry to give you bad news. There is just such a huge risk- so many dont make it for so many reasons. These guys had the odds stacked against them from the beggining- so I was amazed they did make it as far as they did. The second one had started absorbing the yolk- and both were pretty much the same size.
