My chicken recently laid a double Yolker. It got me to thinking “had this egg have been fertile would that have produced twins?”. Also why is it sometimes there is blood on the yolk of the egg, I don’t have a rooster so fertile eggs are not to blame?.

Hi there, hope you're enjoying BYC! :frow

Use the search box in the right upper corner as there are threads with folks trying to incubate double yolkers... a common new layer hiccup.

This article has much useful information..

On the yolk is blood spot and in the white is a meat spot.. having different causes.. those would not likely hatch, in my experience.. Noting an infertile egg actually can start to develop but will quit early on and not become a chick.

People have tried to incubate double yolkers, sometimes one or both yolks will start developing, but usually they’ll quit at some point during incubation. It’s very rare to get 2 healthy chicks out of one, though I have heard of it happening.
