Double yolks, what does it mean?

I remember a quadruple yolker from when I was a kid, the eggs were huge and at least a double and sometimes a triple from this hen.

The ameracaunas and, I believe, one of the australorps give a lot of double yolks.

We have a NHR that has been consistantly giving us double yokes. I can't say whether this is a hereditary thing or the fact that the girls have only been laying eggs now for about a month. As it stands right now only 3 remain of my original 9 girls that haven't started laying yet. So the double yoke mystery continues. Guess I'll wait and see what my other 21 pullets do when they start laying their eggs in late September or early October.
