double yolks

I have two red star hens in my small flock, they started laying in Sept.Since then one of them has been laying a huge double yolk egg about once every three weeks, Is this just an anomaly in nature or is this a trait I could breed for ?

It is something of an anomaly. There are a few who are prone to that. You could breed for it, but double yoke eggs rarely hatch. So you would end up not having enough hatch to keep the line going.

It happens in new layers as their bodies adjust to the laying process. Once they have been laying a while, you will rarely get double yolkers.
