Dove Allergies please help

Hello I am new to this site. I recently bought a beautiful white ring neck dove from a breeder. She is so sweet and very tame. This is my 2nd day home with her and I already noticed my lungs were closing up (allergic reaction) due to the feather dust from her wings. I have owned many birds before like parakeets and diamond doves and cockatiels and have NEVER had this problem with an allergic reaction, until now. I though maybe it was because they probably didn't bathe her much at the breeders and she may be extra dusty, so I decided to give her a bath to see if that would reduce the dust. Has anyone else had this problem with their ring neck doves causing allergies? I am sad because I don't want to have to re-home her, but I am afraid I may be allergic to her. Should I just wait a week and see if bathing her regularly and me taking an allergy medicine would help my symptoms? I don't know what to do.

I have two and don't have any problems, probably because I am not allergic. It is odd that you would have a reaction to her when you did not with other doves but maybe there is something different about ring necked doves. I have not heard about it yet if there is a difference. I am kinda interested to find out.

Wonders if your new bird may be carrying organisms that other birds you have had do not carry? Will be curious if time and washing alleviates the issue?
Meanwhile maybe need to wear a mask.

Yes it is very strange considering I have a cockatiel (very high dust bird) and 3 parakeets, and I have never ever had an allergy problem with any of them. And the 2nd day after I brought my new white ring neck dove home I let her out of the cage to fly around my kitchen and immediately my lungs started to close up and I got very concerned, it felt like asthma symptoms or some type of allergic reaction (I was thinking maybe she was extra dusty or something?). I am hoping by me washing my her every 3 days or so that it will alleviate most of the dust on her. I also started taking an allergy pill and hopefully that will help my symptoms. She is such a sweet dove I would be so sad if I had to re-home her. I am so wondering if anyone else has ever had this problem before...?

I have had both budgies and ringneck doves in the past and the doves were exceedingly dusty.

I'm no expert but maybe there's some component in the dove dust that you're more sensitive to than with other birds.

Yes I also have Budgies and have never had a problem with allergies - even my cockatiel didn't bother me. I am wondering if its something specific about dove dust or dander my body reacts to, kind of like how people can be allergic to certain dog breeds but be fine with other breeds. Whatever the reason I am going to have to re-home her, nothing seems to be helping my lungs. Every time I am around her I have asthma like symptoms. As sad as I am I have to find another home for her

Thank you I found someone who is going to adopt her from me. Now I am going to have an empty cage I am trying to decide what type of bird to get now.

Today was a sad day, I cried when I had to re-home my sweet dove today, her name was Lily.
