Down to the last few days, new questions arise!

what a lovely photo, how many did she have. do you let the mum see the other chickens, if you are free range they probably don’t bother them, i don’t have so much room, they have a large run with electric fence around them.
The mama was never taken from the main coop, so the others could see her the whole time. I just fenced her area off, so she had her own food, water and the others couldn't get to her nest and bother her.
She hatched out 3 littles. They all free range together and when not free ranging, they all stay in the run together. I have a cage set up inside the coop for mama and the littles and I open it every morning. Mama takes her littles back into the nursery cage at dusk and I shut them in for the night.
Once in awhile one of the big girls will peck at one of the littles or steal a food item from them, but nothing worrisome. Im pretty shocked at that because 1. the mama is lowest in pecking and always got picked on and 2. my older girls are not the easiest, they are mean to any newcomer!

thank you for your information it’s a great help. my littlehen gets picked on when she goes out to eat by the lowest member of the flock, the other mainly ignore her. i have a safe area already made up for her when the chicks hatch in the coop. did you let them out when they first hatched or did you wait a week or so. mine are due Sunday at a guess, as i am not sure exactly. :jumpy

I let mama take them out after about a week. She took them free ranging with the big girls. But she kinda goes off by herself with them most of the time. She tires them out! Haha. And at dusk she takes them back into the coop and into the nursery cage.
