I have only not Long got into chickens. Being in Australia, we are presently in middle of our coldest winter for 20 years.....average daily temp is 10-14 degrees Celsius and some nights gets down to 6 and up. They are a lot of work but When I go out in morn to find a nice egg lying in the hay in hatch it is well worth it.
I am not sure that I am feeding them the right food but give them some greens, breadcrumbs, rice and pasta and alternate these. I put some grain seed in feeder and ensure they have lots of water. Also I provide some eggshells finely ground about every 3 days and occasionally dig some worms dig some worms out from our worm farm as a treat. They are free range during the day from about 9:00am till about 5:30 pm .
