Dr suggested growth hormones for my 4 year old..

Henry'schickens :

SarahFair, I posted earlier but let me clarify this. My friend DID see a specialist, had testing done (when he was young also) and it was confirmed that his body was not producing the hormone to make him grow. NOW after years (8-9yrs) of ''hem-hawing'' He decided he wanted the shots.
What I'm telling you here is that you have PLENTY of time to decide what you and your son wants to do. It just needs to be decided BEFORE the average age when the growth plate stops growing.
Now things change and everyone has their own opinions. Just gather as much info as you can before your final decision and it should be your son's decision (and parents) and no one else.

I agree. I think I am going to wait to start him on anything till he can have a personal say and understanding. He is not in any immediate danger that I see. I will probly get him checked out anyways and watch him over the years. Once hes old enough to understand whats going on and if/i] there still seems a problem we will put a plan into action.
After all trying to defy nature with medicines that we dont even know the possible long term affects of....
I dont think I want him living his whole life with a 'side affect' because of a decision I made because he didnt seem 'normal' at the time.

I would gather more information, as opposed to guessing that there is not a problem.

No harm in further evaluation by a specialist.

If everything checks out normal, and he is just genetically small, or grows at an unusual but healthy rate, then great... peace of mind for you, too.

But if there is a medical problem or hormone deficiency, then knowing earlier is always better than knowing later!

Good luck

I would get a second opinion from a specialist. Being short isn't necessarily a defect. I'm 5 ft 5 in so I am considered average height. I haven't grown since I was 12 years old. Well, I've grown in width, but not height. When I was a kid they made my parents think I was going to a giant Amazon woman. Then I just stopped growing. My DH didn't stop growing until he was 21 years old. DS was about 20 when he topped out. DD stopped growing at about 16. We all grow at different rates. Charts are just a guideline, not the complete answer.

I agree with Henry's chicken that you have time. It is a great thing that you want your sons opinion on this also because if he starts it is a shot once a day just like insulin.
