I have read your many, many posts, seen your many pix, and I am so sorry for your loss. Words of comfort arent much help right now but I want you to know that we have all had losses, so please, I am sure we all feel your pain.
I hope that you can go coon hunting tonight - I lost our great coon dog, Bruce who wasnt really a coon dog (RottwiellerXboxer) a few weeks ago - he got run over by a neightbor who helped bury him). The best animals that fullfil our lives cant be replaced. We can only grieve. We can only reach a point where we rejoice in their memory, & smile or laugh at the past that we shared with them. Always, always better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all. Peace be with you, honey. We are thinking of you.

Reminds me of the book Animal Magnetism by Rita Mae Brown.

Mini, I think you would like this book.
The author talks about all the animals she had or knew growing up as a kid, and how they influenced her life.
Check it out.

Thanks everyone all of your comments really help.

From reading the forum we can tell how much you loved him and all your birds. Hope you catch that predator, I am betting coon or skunk. Fox wouldn't reach through and pull to the fence like the others would. Cats like to stalk, kill and then retreat with the prey, not eat it on the spot. THis is instinct for them so betting not bobcat. Go get em for Dragon!!!!

I am so sorry!!! I have enjoyed the beautiful pictures you posted of Dragon, I wish there were words to make it better. It sounds like whatever got him was inside the fence, perhaps the feathers outside were from him trying to get away and he stuck his head through and was pulled back in? Such a horrible thing to have to see. My suggestion would be to put up electric fencing a little ways out from the pen. Either netting or several strands close together. If you do that, don't skimp on the charger. Make sure it's a good one because an electric fence is only as good as the controller supplying power. There are several good ones, either electric or solar. I hope the rest are safe!
