Drake lost mate - how can I get him eating?

So sorry guys! I’ve had a hectic few days!

Emmy (single drake) is doing ok. He will eat peas, finely chopped tomato and mealworms soaked in a bowl of water... I’m taking what I can get right now!

He will not touch his mash, or lettuce still. One day at a time.

He is spending most of his day sitting at the fence that he shares with his parents... making ‘hey there lady’ calls to his mum... I’m taking that as a good thing (his dad is not )

Another update. Emmy is doing OK, but not great! He is living on fresh peas, fancy lettuce (finely chopped of course) and a sprinkle of mash and brewers yeast made into a watery soup.

He won’t touch it if I put too much mash in there. It’s like trying to find out what a new born baby will eat... exhausting!

He sleeps next to dad at their shared fence most of the day, I have tried countless times to see if they can all three live together, but he aggressively persues him Mum constantly if I let them in together.

The ducklings my husband brought home are looking like a male/female pair. I may be wrong! But if that’s the case I may have to look into adopting a single older lady for my boy!

Kids hey! :D

That would be a great idea and would most likely get him eating again. Have you looked on craigs list? plus we have a rehoming threads here on BYC.

I’m in Australia, so I don’t think I’ll have any luck on here. But I have a couple of places I can try, that aren’t tooooooo far away (meaning I’m looking at a day trip most likely) :)

I lost my female pekin on Monday. My drake was so lonely! I had originally planned on getting him a couple ladies, but I ended up with another drake that is a couple months younger than him. They are getting along so well. I definitely think getting him an older girl would be great for him, so he can have a companion sooner rather than later. I’m sorry for your loss!

I actually wouldn’t mind having a male pair either! I will keep the options open! In my experience apart from breeding season (where I have to wear closed in shoes, Incase my drake tries to bite my toes) males seem to be more open to human company and cuddles :)
