We are new to ducks and got these guys from someone in town who couldn't keep them. They are two months old and I believe a Silver Appleyard, Rouen, and Black Swedish. Correct me if I'm wrong on that. Are these quacks loud enough to indicate girls? They're a lot louder than our three month old raspy ducks which we believe are all boys but the coloration on the Rouen and Appleyard makes me think drakes. Any thoughts are greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Looks like you’ll have an all drake flock which many do and it can work as long as no females are close by. What you can do is pick them up separately and walk away then you can hear each one separately. I don’t think I heard a female but still worth checking out.
....I also agree that they sound like drakes.
But I am 99% certain that they are not two months old.
Perhaps I’m wrong- I’ve never had those varieties just to be clear. And. Based on feather development, and development of their vocal chords....
I’d guess they are more like 4-5 mos old
....not that it really matters, per se. but. They should not have that many feathers at ~8 weeks of age.
Yes they all ended up being drakes and even though they were smaller than our 3 month old drakes they got the curly tail feathers first so I believe you are correct, they were older than we were led to believe. We don't mind having them, though
