Dream Chicken - Giant, Polka Dot Easter Egger

The OP means spangled like Hamburgs, not mottled.

SURE, ruin my fun

I did misunderstand though. Thanks, Illia!

There's actually a bird out there that sounds like what the OP was describing. Dr. Albert McGraw of Alabama bred what he called a silver spangled araucana (relying in part on the first appenzeller spitzhauben imported into America) that is rumpless, spangled, and lays a blue egg. Few remain in the USA. Here are pictures of a rooster and hen:

@LareePQG

Those are very nice, but Illia is correct. I was talking about silver spangled. I do like the porcelain/mottled birds you posted a lot though. I'm really talking about a fairly large, polka dot bird with puffy cheeks.

Getting warmer. I really want big fluffy cheeks a tail and no/minimal wattles. If I could get my hands on them, it might be a heck of a start though.

I'm not doubting, I'm just trying to learn. Why would you start with Silver or Wheaten as opposed to White or Black?

You mentioned Silver Laced twice. Once for Polish and once for Wyandotte. Are silver laced and silver spangled related to one another? I guess you sort of mentioned the silver laced will dilute down actually now that I rereading.

Okay, that I don't mind at all. I think my MIL's neighbor has Wheatens.

I'm guessing you wouldn't think Spitzhauben would be a good starting point either? I was sort of excited about them, bummer. The wife sort of likes the laced girls though.

Thanks for your thoughts though. It was very informative. I'm going have to read some breeding book I thinks.

Alright Stoneunhenged,

That is what I want in my araucanas. Anyone have hatching eggs available from those. If they had tufts they would be perfect. That hen has the sternist look on her little face. Are those your birds or did you find the photo somewhere?
