Dreaming of Spring Gardening in the Middle of a Wisconsin winter part 2

Yep, went to bed and it was starting to rain. Got up and there's snow on the deck ramp. Pretty crunchy stuff. Predictions of possibly 4 inches tonight, and I wish I had remembered to throw a row cover over some of the perennials that were a few inches tall already.

At least it will be too cold (for me!) to muck out coops today. I think I will finish re-reading a book that's the first one in a series. I have the next two ordered, and they should arrive in the mail next week.

Murray McMurray Hatchery, which is in the next county, is having a big to-do this summer that I wanted to attend, until I saw the cost. I just found out the keynote speaker is an author I'd like to hear, a horticulturist who promotes no-dig gardening. I have one of his books.

Here's the quandary: I think it's really too expensive, too much money to indulge myself for two days. The newspaper where I used to work keeps asking me to freelance some pieces, which would likely allow me to cover the event for free, with a press pass.

In the end, I will probably decide not to sell my soul and will just cough up the big bucks Or, sit home and pout that weekend.
You should definitely go either way. I'm at a point in my life where if I really want to do something I do it. You just never know what's in your future. Might as well enjoy life. It's so short.

speaking of life is short.
a friend of mine likes to take a tape rule and ask you how old you are.
then he tell you that the life expectancy is
78 years. then he holds the tape at the number of your age and shows you how much of your life you have used up and how much is left.. really eye opening ..
I just went and shoveled the ramp off.
I guess we had more than one inch of snow.
it is more like four inches
I set a smaller live trap today. nothing is going to squeeze out of the smaller holes.

Helps to keep everything in perspective when you accept our time is limited.

We got about an inch. Should melt off in the next few days especially with 40's back on the forecast for next week.

I slept in today. 5:3o .. felt so good.
It is really cold. single digits and wind chill below zero.. I didn't go outside yesterday and don't plan on it again today.
Annie made a pot of boiled dinner with light fluffy dumplings on top..
I chopped the cabbage for it. and then she added a pint of the ho made sauerkraut. it gives it a nice zing..

Good deal on sleeping in!

It's 7 degrees here with less snow than predicted on the ground. I wish I could stay inside all day, but I'm pretty sure the critters would be mighty unhappy.

I went out at daylight to make sure no one laid eggs overnight that would be freezing or frozen. I found one still-warm Calico Princess egg. However, as Lucille was on Clavamox, it's still 6 days before her eggs should be free of the antibiotic. Her eggs and her sister's are identical, so no CP eggs are safe. Fortunately, the coloring is different enough that I can tell theirs from the other four girls in that coop.

I think today's to-do list includes a lot of curling up on the sofa with a book.
