Dreaming of Spring Gardening in the Middle of a Wisconsin winter part 2

Hope you're on the mend, Lisa, and congrats on surviving Thanksgiving (and presumably beer-bottle gathering), Jim.

My sheet pan Thanksgiving meal was tasty, and aside from washing mixing bowls that shouldn't go in the dishwasher, clean up was pretty minimal. Plus, I still have leftovers for today.

Although I love the look of a white-lighted Christmas tree, I dread holiday decorating and pretty much skipped it last year, opting for just a small table-top tree. My mom bought it for me when she came to visit in Minneapolis in the early '80s; its decorations include some that hung on the tree at home when I was a kid.

Yesterday I dragged EVERYTHING out of the "Christmas closet," and realized the job would be much easier if I got rid of things I haven't used in years. For example, I used to hang solar lights on a little evergreen I planted; now, I couldn't reach the top of that tree with my 12-foot ladder. I plan to donate a full tote and a couple of boxes of decor to one of the Fort Dodge thrift stores.

While decorating, I discovered mouse poop on an old printer's case. I set two snap traps but both were empty this morning. I was hoping the addition of those cats I didn't want would reduce my chances of mice sneaking upstairs.

Managed to get in and out of Bomgaars early yesterday. They were offering 20 percent off regular prices, and I loaded up on poultry and livestock feed, about as much as my little Ford Focus could carry:)

I was less thrilled last night when I was dragging all those bags out of the car and into the storage cans. I also snagged some pine shavings and will be adding those when I clean coops this morning. Ah, the glamorous life!!

I did this too. Been holding onto stuff for years. Felt good to send it on it's way. Minimal decorating here. No outside stuff this year. Not in the mood.

we have a small christmas thingy with colored lights on it. a couple of years ago Annie was going to put it into storage. I told her to leave it be. it is a good night light .
yes, I did gather 33 bottles from outside.
got a few up from the basement also. all in all I have about 45 all washed . the bottle blaster worked great. including breakfast , I was done in less than an hour.
no bottle brush needed.
a lot of the rubber gaskets are dried out. I have a bag of new ones so I am in good shape, there.
11F . at 9pm.

bro came out today. all the boys gave up hunting. too cold. this is a first for our crew.
I tested the second batch of wine. it is well due for bottling., I have to stop the fermentation. the best way is to chill it down for several days. I put it out into the sun room.
it is 16F outside. slightly warmer in the sun room.
we did not go out for breakfast. neither of us felt like braving the cold. watched a program about the Vikings settling in Greenland .
who in their right mind would settle in such a cold place ? come to think of it, why would my grandparents leave Indiana and come to Wisconsin ?
eggs are $6.oo/doz around here.
