Dreaming of Spring Gardening in the Middle of a Wisconsin winter part 2

Hope you all don't get that much snow!!

We used to have a Lab-Great Dane who would literally back up to any evergreen tree to do his business, Soupy refused to poop anywhere else. My current canines are not nearly as tidy or predictable.

I am getting the urge to TRY to start veggie seeds indoors, although I know it never ends well for me. MAYBE peppers, although I killed off all the ones I started last year before they could ever move to the great outdoors.

And, speaking of disappointment, it appears that although the runner girls aren't laying yet, the drakes are clearly in the throes spring hormones, breeding furiously. Both boys are showing signs of battle, and I finally had to put one in timeout yesterday.

Even though it's early I can see the signs of spring in my poultry. My muscovy hens are looking for spots to lay already. They are about a month early. The 3 African geese I got last year were supposed to be females but I believe they are all males. I keep finding them on the backs of the poor females. They will go in the freezer. I am not a fan of the breed anyways. Too loud. Being males would explain the noise.

yeah, those male Africans do make themselves heard.
geese will lay their eggs right in the snow.
I don't think it hurts them for hatching, though.
It is supposed to start snowing around noon today.
continue until about 4 PM.
I bought a "pair" of geese at an auction.
kept them for two years. never got an egg.
finally butchered them. both were males.
they acted like a pair.

The African are in the freezer. It's so peaceful out there in my goat yard now. I forgot what the rest of the geese sounded like. I feel like I escaped captivity.

I see channel 9 said 6-12 inches at noon. I suppose after we get the snow they will let us know how much it was.

Yeah, just like they tell you all about an event you
could have attended, the day after it is over..
you wasted no time sending those ganders to
freezer camp.. you must have been thinking about
it for a long time.
our two cornish hens turned out very tender and tasty.
just one hour at 350 , uncovered. between the two of us,
we didn't even consume one of them. at that rate, we will
have three more meals . had the whole layout: mashed potatoes,
gravy, creamed corn from our garden, frozen, cranberries, stuffing.
annie accidently bought a quart of buttermilk. she added some to
the mashed potatoes. it was good.
Now I can make some buttermilk pancakes tomorrow.
the little bit of snow really increased the slipperyness of
the ice in the driveway.
I am thinking I won't be able to get traction with Ollie to
push the snow. I guess we will call Bob with his 4WD truck
to come and do it.

Sounds delicious Jim. Definitely slippery out there.

Once I told my husband that I thought those 3 geese were gandars he saw them trying to mate a goose. I told him I could not keep them if they were, so he got on it before I felt guilty and changed my mind. If you wait 5 seconds that often happens. So he had to get on it or be driven crazy by my decisiveness.
