Dreaming of Spring Gardening in the Middle of a Wisconsin winter part 2

Today, I have an appointment to take my car back to the Ford dealership where they will repair all the electrical wiring damaged by mice, damage they discovered after the safety recall repair. It is a one-day fix; they have to remove the entire dashboard.

HOWEVER, thanks to my insurance company, it could take the entire week before I get my car back because, according to the adjuster (who finally called me back), once the dealership sends photos and an estimate, it will take two to three days for them to "negotiate" and agree on a price for repairs.

I was already not happy about that; on Saturday, I got a notice in the mail that my homeowners insurance, with the same company, has gone up more than 21 percent over last year. :rant

It is 6 degrees right now, but the forecast calls for 40 degrees by midweek. I hope it's right, although that still seems to me to be mighty unusual January weather. Photos on my phone show that I am usually snowed in this time of year.

Jim, I'm not a big sourdough fan. But I have pulled my artisan bread making book off the shelf and am considering baking a loaf or two. Fresh, hot homemade bread sounds delicious, plus the oven will warm up the kitchen!

yep, everybody is raising their prices.
our insurances went up also. and the town figured our property value is worth $30,000.oo more. although we have done nothing to improve the property.
Oh wait, maybe the $30.oo I spent to insulate the stairway in the garage, that explains it.
I think the Packers A team got stranded on the interstate yesterday,,
the only good thing about that game was the bottle of brew i had.
it is a balmy 7below this morning.
I might bake something to warm up the kitchen

Seems winter has arrived for a few days. I was reminded why I need to downsize my critter keeping. Brrr.

Anyone recognize this critter? Dogs found it a few days ago. Should have taken pictures than. Had to dig it out of the dog poop bucket because I keep wondering what it is. Has a long rat tail, star nose and digging flipper feet. Was a decent size too. I've seen both moles and voles, and shrews, but never nothing this large with that tail.

Well, Jim, if you've learned anything from this, it's that you can't go around doing high-end projects -- like insulating a garage stairway for $30 -- and not expecting it to overly improve your property.

Lisa, that mole is even more unattractive than the usual, garden variety of pest. I hope it is a single, solitary beast and that you don't find any of its friends or relatives.

@ShrekDawg, your visitors were much more pleasant to look at!

An update on my rodent-ravaged car situation: Monday, I had an appointment to get the wiring fixed, but it wouldn't start. My AAA guy (who is also my hay guy) came out and got it running. Not that it mattered because I got a call from the dealership that we had to reschedule for Tuesday; the tech called in sick.

Yesterday, as I was getting ready to drive into town (relieved, because the car started), I got a text and a call from the SA at the dealership. Tech is still sick, so we need to reschedule again.

The appointment is now set for Friday; I told the SA to simply pick a day she thought might work for them. If the (apparently only sufficiently trained) technician doesn't recover by then, I may need to send flowers and a get well card. Or, a full-service dealership may want to cross train one of the many other folks who work in the shop.

And the Universe laughed at me again: I got a text asking me to rate the dealership's service department. I think I will wait until the day, if ever it comes, that the work is actually done.

On the plus side, yesterday's snow was light, fluffy and easy to shovel, and today, it's supposed to get above freezing.
