Sounds like Mother Nature is giving us all the cold shoulder right now. Lisa, I hope your water woes get repaired soon, and Jim, I hope you get to create some sawdust.
Every time it looks like the brutal cold is over, it sneaks back in. Although the cold weather advisory is supposed to end at 9 a.m., there's more double-digit-below-zero temps predicted for tonight. IF the forecasters are right (???) it could be in the 40s and maybe even 50 next week.
I feel like my days are spent thawing waterers, checking for eggs before they freeze, shoveling blowing snow and drying out gloves, ski masks and coveralls. Last night, as I was trying to fall asleep, I could hear a the whirr of a snowmobiler packing down the snow where my driveway meets the pavement. High winds yesterday lifted loose snow and redeposited it on my deck and ramp, as well as making new drifts in the driveway.
BUT, I am quite proud of my pullets. I wish I'd had a camera with me because I discovered that three of the girls created a little hollow in one of the nest pads and they laid a blue, a white and a brown egg, all nestled together. It was prettier than art in a museum!
