Dreaming of Spring Gardening in the Middle of a Wisconsin winter part 2

Sounds like things are going well with the new goslings, Lisa. Hope things are also going better with your back. Are you going to do physical therapy?

Jim, did Dave enjoy the "surprise" you had for him?

Hurray for your "cute" beans and happy peas! My first beans are doing so well that I planted more, probably way more than I need. Or, maybe not -- given my usual failure rate.

When the electric company came out to replace my farm light, left behind were two deep tire ruts, about a foot and a half wide and 20 feet long. I've been trying to fix them by hand tilling and adding a lighter, compost-filled soil.

Rather than seed the naked dirt with grass, I decided to use it as bonus garden space. So, beans, onions, Crenshaw melons and some squash are growing there. I'll likely plant grass this fall.

On Monday, we leave for England. I'm sure it will be a great trip, but I am no fan of flying in general and get extremely airsick during the descent. In fact, we are going a full day before the tour starts, just in case I am too unwell to enjoy getting off a plane and onto a bus to the hotel. Meeting new people while upchucking repeatedly seems like a bad way to start the tour.

So jealous Barb. Always wanted to see England, but too chicken to ever do it. Enjoy it for both of us.

I will see the PT on the 24th and go from there. He's the one I saw after my knee replacements. Hopefully nothing as torturous.

Everyone is leaving the new goslings alone. Mom continues to be determined to be outside the fence, and I run her back in daily.

glad to hear the goslings are safe with mom.
hope your PT goes well. I always hated PT after my hip surgeries.
Barb, when your plane is taking off, do as I always do. Pull up hard on the arm rest and you will always get the plane off of the ground.
it started raining hard about 15 minutes ago,. no gardening today.
Dave grumbled a little about how heavy the tiller was, until I told him to lift up on the handles so the tines were off of the ground.
Of course I had just emptied the last of the gas into the tractor. So I will not know if the tiller will start. If it doesn't, I will not plant the corn.
He bought a new picnic table, so he brought his old one to us. it is a nice glass topped one about 6ft long,. there is no room for dancing on our deck any more. also has 6 nice metal chairs with cushions .

Jim, thanks for the advice on helping the plane get off the ground. I will surely do my part. Sounds like you also gave Dave some good advice! You might want to start your own Dear Abby column. :lau

Sorry you lost your dance floor. Maybe now folks will have to dance on the table?

Lisa, it's taken me years to work up the gumption to fly overseas again. Much as I want to BE in England, getting there is a major challenge. I've always flown solo before, so having my sister beside me to hold my hand (or a barf bag!) will be good. Maybe when I get back, I will tell such amazing stories that you will decide to "cross the pond," too.

Hope your PT isn't too arduous. My last physical therapist was such an unpleasant little man that I quit early.

Lettuce almost already to bolt? Mine isn't big enough to start picking. The tomato plants are doing great. I've read that planting onions around the garden edge will discourage pests -- apparently because they are so busying digging my onion sets out of the ground that they are too tired to bother anything else. Something is eating holes in the radish leaves.

As I was working in the garden Saturday, I heard the ducks fussing and thought nothing of it. Then, the chickens joined in. I caught a glimpse of what I thought was a mangy cat (Holy crap, not another one!!) slipping into some tall grass by the hay shed.

I walked over to discover that the "cat" was an opossum whose manginess was actually a litter of babies, hitchhiking on her back. There were nine or ten; it was hard to tell because they kept slipping off and climbing back on again. Those ugly little critters were totally adorable. I almost (almost!) wanted to grab one and pet it.

Well, I'm off to Jolly Olde England in a few hours. Expect some gushing highlights when I return. Cheerio!
