Dried poop in vent

See that’s what has me worried...that you had to dig it out. I’ve trimmed dried poop but the vent was always pink and moist.
Olive oil or coconut oil any vegetable oil will help to answer your question.
Does her vent look normal now?
Does she sleep on the ground?
Do you deworm your chickens?

Have you considered fermenting her feed to improve its nutritional value and her gut health?

I did read about fermenter feed today and was thinking about trying that

She says she’s never laid. That was my first thought too.

I don’t think it’s prolapsed. After I cleaned it, it looked a lot better and looked like a normal vent.

Just dried poop really. I have looked at many photos and didn’t really see anything that resembled what she had. I wish I would have taken a photo

I would use my recommendation and watch it closely. You shouldn’t get pasty butt, with using it. But make sure to keep applying it. If it happens again, post pictures so we can all learn and figure it out!

Oh okay. I had a hen who slept in the nesting box and Lordy her butt! That’s why I asked if she slept on the ground. Sometimes a good cleaning gets them on the right track. Add some oil to her diet. Even dip a treat in it once in awhile. Greens are good to (please no spinach for hens who will lay) I use Romaine or butter lettuce. Has moisture naturally and it’s a healthy treat. Black oil sun flower seeds have a natural oil in them too. Just keep an eye on her as she’s reaching egg laying age. Best wishes

She does sleep in the box.
I will try the oil and lettuce. Thank you. If this happens again which I hope it does not I will get photos

Well...they poop where they sleep ALOT!
Break her of that bad habit okay?

I purchased a Lavender Orpington who had been at the bottom of the pecking order and lost a lot of feathers.

her vent was very messy and smelly. The poop had dried in the vent. I cleaned the vent with warm water and had to pick out the dried poop. She was able to poop again.

She was hatched in June so she isn’t laying yet.

With her being at the bottom of the pecking order with feather loss, that gives us clue.
She was likely being kept from food and water by the other birds.
Dehydration and not eating properly makes it harder for them to evacuate.

She needs nutrition so I would just give her her normal feed and plenty of water.
A little applesauce will get things moving. Make sure she has a source of poultry grit available free choice. A small treat of egg or chopped leafy greens will give her a boost. She would probably benefit from a direct dose of poultry vitamins for a few days as well.

Hopefully you have her caged separately from your existing flock so you can monitor her for parasites and illness.

Yes she is separate from my other hens. I plan on keeping it that way for at least 30 days.

My main concern is keeping things moving. Her poop has never been normal looking. Reminds me of wet sand. And then the last day it was dried to her. She was pooping again tonight so hopefully these tips will help and she can start to get better

It might be a good idea to get a fecal float to see if she has worms.

If you do give the Applesauce, go easy, it has a laxative effect as does the Molasses.

Hopefully once she is eating/drinking normally and can relax from being picked on she will come around.
