no i agree with you 100%. I know it needs to get fixed. At this moment I have to wait till tax time. Im out of work and only get a limited income from unemployment and Im not trying to make excuses but think about this. farms that have cows have fields with poop and urine all over. chickens run through it not to mention your car tires that run the roads running over dead animals and other things on the highway, and then you pull in the driveway.. then you and other things walk through your driveway. Just because you cant see it does not mean it's not there.. my chickens poop all over the yard and my kids are still playing in the yard, BUT my kids don't play in the poo water.. its way down the hill near the edge of the woods. I think we will stop eating the eggs till I get it fixed just to be safe. thank you everyone for your comments and concerns :)

Money is short and times are hard you do what you have to!!!!
This is a gravel less drain field that I designed and built 2 1/2 years ago. My cost was less than $100.00. These are food storage barrels. I tried to have it approved by my health dept. but I could build 100 for less.
Cut the barrel in half. Picture 1&2 are the first barrel. The next in line #3 have the bottom cut out so they lock together. The cement block under each one is just in case support. 4 - 5 - 6 Show the done deal. This is a 2 bed 1 bath home. Yours may have to be bigger.
I am by no means suggesting anyone break the law by doing this. I am just saying that it is safe and it works. If you want any more information send me a PM.

If you can't fix it right away, at least get some plastic fencing to surround the area. That orange stuff is cheap. But yeah, it's not safe to have raw sewage puddling in your yard.

BTW, different animals have different bacteria/viruses/protozoa in their feces. You can't compare human waste to cow or poultry as if equal.

I'm assuming that means you did all the digging yourself, since a normal system's MATERIAL costs are similar

Its the trenching that costs the most.

Do you have a septic field or a holding tank? Either way plumber husband says it is dangerous for them to be drinking water. If you have a holding tank, check for a cracked collar or possibly it may just need to be pumped out. If septic field check connections.

i thinkn its just a holding tank considering the location of the tank.. there would be no place for a leach field. its all woods within feet of the tank.. i called a company that said they will drain it for $200 I also found out the last time it was drained was in the 80's so im sure it needed it..

My chickens regularly drink water that's basically a manure tea from the horses, they also eat some pretty nasty stuff and my eggs are fine and my birds healthy. BUT, I do think I'd draw the line with human bacteria--I don't know if there's a scientific reason, or just the
sickbyc.gif
factor.
