Drooping and Purple comb on roo BETTER! THANX! **NEW PICS**

We do have A/C, and we keep it set at 76*and we keep his cage covered with a blanket at night.
No wheezing or mucus. We feed him 15% layer feed.
Poo is pretty normal, firm, greenish with "whitecap". LOL
No we don't chase him, he chases my wife. He seems very attached to her. If she leaves the room he will start to chirp and look around for her, almost frantic. He also offers her any bug he catches.
As for other birds, we do have other bantams/silkies. But since we just got him we are keeping him quarantined for a few more weeks. I am going to go to the feed store tommorrow and pic up some electrolytes and see what vitamins they have. As for the Enfamil, you said to put it ON the beak? Not down his beak?

Not the person you're talking to, but it's the Enfamil Poly Vi Sol Infant vitamin drops with NO iron that you're looking for. Poly Vi Sol no iron, can be found in any pharmacy, not just a feed store. If you can, dip the roo's beak into a waterer with it, but if he's not eating or drinking voluntarily, then you can drip some from an eye dropper on the side of his beak and let it dribble into the side of the mouth.

Gotcha... He is eating and drinking voluntarily, so I will write that down and go by CVS tommorrow too. Thanks for clearing that up!

No more than 2-3 drops directly full strength on the beak 2- 3 times daily if not eating, with eating, several drops into a waterer will help perk him up.

It could be that your roo just got overheated, just keep him very well hydrated and give him the ploy vi sol drops in the waterer to see if it perks him up.

To update... His comb was alittle droopy again this morning. But really is acting just fine. I did get him some electrolyte (pedialyte) this morning and some Poly-Vi-Sol from the pharmacy. I also stopped by the feed store to see what they had. All they had was "Bounce Back" single use packet by Mana Pro. But it does not list chickens or poultry under uses.
It says it contains...
Dextrose, Sodium Chloride, Sodium Bicarbonate and Potassium Chloride.
Dextrose Minimum 50%
Salt (NaCi) Maximum 10%
Salt (NaCi) Minimum 10%
Potassium(K) Minimum 0.6%
Sodium Maximum 6.25%
Sodium Minimum 5.25%
Sodium Bicarbonate(NaHCO2) Minimum 5%

I have not given this to him yet as I'm not sure if this is too much salt and/or sugar.Or what the mix to water ratio should be. The girl at the feed store was NO help at all. I was suprised she even knew what a chicken was.(How do some people get jobs where they are clueles?)Please give suggestions or advise on this. If this stuff is not good to use IShe said I could get a refund. Which is great, given that this stuff was expensive... $4.99 for a tiny bag.(4 oz.)

The closest thing I could find was the directions for puppies/kittens which was 1.5 tsp. This is for dehydration and stress. I think I would hold off if you are already giving him vitamins and pedialyte. You definately don't want to overdue the electolytes and throw everything out of wack.

WOW i have to tell you that you guys are GREAT chicken parents

I send Kudos your way for being on top of things. I hope he gets better. The only time I have ever witnessed a purple comb is when my Serama was cold but then the next day he was fine.

Didn't see where this got answered. Yes, on, not down. Too easy to force it down the wrong tube that way, into his lungs. A few horror stories on here about that. Dribble liquids along the side with the head cocked a little the other way, and let them maneuver it down.

Here are some pics I took this morning. Maybe this will help in diagnosing. Or maybe I'm just being a hypochondriac! LOL!
Sorry that they are fuzzy. Getting him to sit still is next to impossible. I had to take 79 pics just to get these ones.

From the first post: "I also kept him outside with me yesterday for several hours and it was very hot. "

Does he have access to water when you are out in the yard? Maybe he got a little dehydrated out there too?
