this morning I went outside to let out my chickens and my little buff orpington rooster was sitting on a roost looking kind of mopy, his comb is kind of pale and droopy. WHAT IS GOING ON????

chicky lover, so sorry to hear about your chicken, and hopefully I can help you out. this is just a guess, but that is exactly what my light brahma rooster looked like when he had an impacted crop, which is caused by getting food clogged up in his crop which makes it impossible for it to pass on into his gullet and be digested. Check and see what his crop feels like and keep me posted.

Oh my goodness I just went and checked, his crop is the size of a baseball and is is as hard as a rock! what do I do???

ok, you are going to need either some baby oil or olive oil and a ear syringe. fill the syringe with oil and squirt it down your roosters throught, that will loosen up whatever is in his crop, it is very important that you keep the syringe to the left side of the throught or else you will squirt oil into his lungs! massage his crop until you feel it start to break up. then carefully hold him upside down and massage his crop in an upwards motion until he vomits up whatever is clogging his crop. good luck!

I got my neighbor to come and help me and I did what you said. A huge glob of mangled grass came out

his crop feels much better now but he is still moping around and isn't eating

I'm glad you got the grass out of his crop. don't feed him anything but water for the first couple of hours. and after that you can give him some soft foods such as yogurt or bread soaked in milk.
