Droopy hen...UPDATE...Corid treatment done... questions

Brought her in... she had a dose of Ivermectin... washed & blow dried her backside (dried greenish poop now)... gave her a couple drops of Polyvisol directly in her mouth... she ate about 4-5 bites of scrambled egg... has electrolytes in her water... anything else?

Will try to get Corid when I go into town later.

One question... I have been putting drops of Polyvisol in her water up to now... am putting them directly into her mouth now... how many drops per day and should it be morning & night or once a day or what? She is a bantam.

I still see no external parasites.

Another interesting fact... when I got her out of the dog house, she had 2 fresh eggs under her... did she lay them or did someone come and lay them by her? Hens were going into see her. I guess we will find out while she is staying in the house... she'll have no feathered visitors.

Thanks for the suggestions... she's a good girl and if she survives this, I will give her a name.

She has also eaten a few bites each of cracked corn, boss and dry cat food! Hope just the warmth of being inside will perk her up... she has NO meat on her bones to keep her warm.

eye droppered some high protein Greek yogurt into her.

I think the best thing that I've done is just bringing her inside... not only for the warmth but because I'm just plain more aware of her and her condition at the moment.

She usually only eats right away as soon as I put something in for her, so it seems to help kinda trading out her dishes of different things. This is the first time in a while that I can actually feel something in her crop.

Awwww. I'm sure she's enjoying all the attention! Sounds like you are doing all you can for her! Remember Ivermectin has an egg withdrawal period if I am not mistaken. (Eprinex= eprinectin does not have an egg withdrawal period.)

There have been tons of threads on Ivermectin. But here is one with a moderator's answer: scroll down

There are vit. and electilytes you can get too to help her. If not mix gatoraid with water and it will help her feel better too.

OK... I was able to get some Corid over the weekend... enough for a horse, as a matter of fact I think it is for a horse.
What I need to know is the off-lable dosage for a small banty chicken... how much powder to how much water... and do I just let her drink what she drinks or should I give it to her by eye dropper?
Thanks for any information you can give me.

As an update, she is eating a little better (she likes the dry cat food) and her poop is small, but formed and correct color... as opposed to green and liquidy.
Her abdomen seems a bit puffy and swollen... not sure what that means or if it is relevant?

Oh you have the powder:

I have never used the powder- can you get the info. you need from the above thread?

About the swollen abdomen question... I have picked up some of my other birds, when I put them in tonight, to compare tummies... and I'm not sure if it actually is swollen of if, in relation to the rest of her body, it just seems so... she has lost a LOT of weight and is basicly bones everywhere else.

Will start the Corid tomorrow morning. It will be the only water she will have access to and I will also give her an eye-dropper full twice a day to make sure she is getting enough. I have read on here that I should stop the baby vitamins while she is on the Corid? Should I?

She is still eating and drinking just a little. Poop still looks pretty good, but small. Her face and comb color still looks good. Eyes and nostrils clear. It is her hunched posture and droopy tail that tell me she still isn't feeling well. For a few minutes, when she is let down to just walk around the room her tail comes up and looks normal for a few minutes, until she gets tired.

I have named her Betti Confetti... she is a mutt with all kinds of colors, spotted all over... a quiet little girl, kinda low on the pecking order... I hope she makes it.
