This is my first time raising chickens. I have 4 silkies that are 6 days old. They had some pasty butt but it was seeming to stop. I’m as checking them all one last time for the night and one leaped out of my hands. I stay on the floor with them but was on my knees and it jumped and fell about 2 1/2 - 3 feet. It has now been doing nothing but sleeping and I’m so distraught. Will it be ok? The chick will lift its head but can’t keeps its eyes open. Longest it’s walked in the past hour, was about 6 steps then immediately fell asleep again. No visible injury, breathing seems normal. I can’t stop crying and would be heartbroken but I’d still like to know what my poor babies chances are. If anyone has a similar story or advice that would be so appreciated. ♥️

*He didn’t make it. Thanks to everyone who commented.

maybe she a bit stunned from the fall. I’ve had a chick jump off my shoulder on to a tile floor also a silkie and was fine. I’m not sure tho. keep an eye on her. I hope she gets better. let me know. Don’t feel bad theses things happen. I also felt horrible when it happened. Good luck. :hugs

Thank you so much. I’ve helped stunned wild birds but I’ve always seen them bounce back in 10-30 minutes. It’s been an hour 😞 I will keep you updated. I’m sorry if I take a while. Between packing for moving, kids and now this. I’m a mess right now.

Should I put the chick in a separate box under the light? It keeps falling asleep close to the water. Even though it’s a water can for baby chicks, I still worry. It’s not eating or drinking anyway. I plan on staying by it all night. Poor thing keeps getting bumped around by the others. Just want to make sure I’m doing all I can correctly. This is much more nerve wracking than I expected.

Don't cry. Chicks are so so resiliant. Make it some mush feed mixed with water, kindof the texture of oat meal. You can also try vanilla yogurt on your finger. I don't think the chick is hurt, but the episode may have caused him to forget food. Chickens are weird that way. Get the chick hungry again. Mush is great. Stand him in front of the bowl. If he walks away put him right back in front of the bowl. Put some on his beak. Some chicks do sleep alot. I would make sure of his intake and watch his poop.

I remember I had a silkie chick that was bumped around alot, and I caught when she stopped walking from weakness. I discussed tube feeding with Casportpony who knows alot about tubing. With that and continuously putting her in front of the bowl with mush, she got back to normal.

It does not take long for a chick to get lack of water and feed for whatever reason. The weaker they get, the more they get pushed around. When I knew she was getting enough nutrients and water from me, she actually went to the group feed and ate without letting anyone bother her. I always have tubing and syringes in my med case. It's great when anyone needs meds and you need to be sure they get them. Or some watery feed to get stable. I cross my fingers for you.
