I've done the same thing a few times. Well 3 times. The first 2 they survived. The last time which was just a few days ago the shell on the small end busted all up. I had it in the bator and this morning DH saw it and thought it was in trouble and attempted to help it out. Little did he know it wasn't done cooking and it started to bleed. I guess he thought I woldn't notice and just laid it back down. I did notice it but it was still moving so I left it alone and left this morning to take him to work. By the time I got home to tend to it, it had died.

ONe of these days he'll learn to leave it to me to tend to those. He usually gets me if he thinks one is in trouble but noooooooo not this time. I actually knew about this one before he did. He still hasn't said a word about it. I wonder how long it will be before he brings it up.

Thank goodness I'm not the only one. I'm thinking it was a good thing the eggs were chilly from getting abandoned and that being cold helped stop the bleeding from being dropped faster. Then I was freaking out when she wouldn't move thinking I'd broken her neck when I dropped her ( even though judging by the shell and where the blood was it landed on the small end, not her head). I felt so guilty, dropping the poor thing, making her come out, and then thinking I'm going to have to cull her. So glad she's acting normal. And it's got to be a she. Boys are wussies, no way one could have made it through this, lol.

If she's up and running around good in the morning still I'm going to dye her head or wing or something so I know what one she is, and put her out with everyone else. I have 2 broodies who shared the nest, and are sharing the chicks, so I don't think they can count how many they have since they keep trading chicks back and forth. So it should be no problem to pop her out there with them.

Little chickie in front of BO momma is the dropped chick. She's about half the size of the other chicks, but she's 1-2 days younger than them, and they're little piggies. The cochins are bigger than the lil black one that hatched yesterday too, and it's standard and they're bantams. Mommas accepted her fine, and she doesn't seem to have any problems keeping up with everyone else.
