Hello all, I posted a few days ago I rescued a couple hens, still laying a lot so they’re youngish. But the ones feet are dry? And weird looking.
new to all this and not sure what’s going on. They have been separate cause the other one was missing it’s tail feathers and wanted to treat them for mites before I introduced them to my flock. I’ll attach a picture.
Let me know if you need more pictures!
Thanks for the help!

They could have scaly leg mites. This is when mites dig underneath the skin of the leg and eat the tissue, which results in crusty, scabby looking legs. You could try soaking them in warm water, then applying vaseline or petroleum jelly 3-4 times a week.

Thank you I’ll try it. Should I keep them separate from my flock? If so how long?

It could very well be scaly leg mites, but it may also be a biotin deficiency. The reasons I may suspect biotin deficiency is that it can present like scaly leg mites with the raised leg scales (which is more common in older birds), but it can also lead to poor feathering and deformed feet. I’d start her with petroleum jelly for about a week, and if her condition doesn’t seem to be improving, I’d start her on biotin supplements.
