I've noticed my chickens combs looking like they have dry skin. They are alert and their usual perky selves. They are only 4.5 months old and I thought maybe they are look the way they do because they're combs are still growing. Any help would be lovely thank you.

Are they laying yet? I'm guessing not. What are they on for feed? Mill date? Protein content? What else are you giving them? Treats? How much?

No eggs yet. They're on purina organic starter-finisher. 18% protein. I've only been giving them peas and hardboiled eggs as treats about once a week. They get LOTS of greens they are free ranged out here in the country. I haven't had any sickness (knock on wood).

I think this is normal. Like you said, it happens when the comb is still growing. My serama pullet had the same thing. I put some Vaseline on it and it seems to have improved.
