Dry membrane? Duckling hatching

My other egg died this morning :( it was always going to be slim that one living as it developed in a very odd manner. It just about internally pipped, when I went to check on it 3 hours later, it had stopped moving and was cold. It’s beak was totally wrong place, not even near the narrow end of the egg :( so sad.
Sorry to hear that.

If the nostrils are clear, it's ok. It takes a long time for a duckling to absorb the yolk. If you candle the fat end, you may be able to see a reddish pinkish area that is yolk. When it's absorbed it glows more yellow down there. It's better to leave it a bit longer to be sure than to do it too early. Yawning is a sign it's still absorbing. When you think it's ready, you can free it's head from the top half and let it push out. If the membrane is stuck to the fluff and it can't get out, moisten with warm water until you can peel the gunk away. Their skin tears very easy so be careful. Luckily they heal fast too so if if does get a little tear, it'll be ok.

All is well! 💕
