Hey, that answers one of my d'Uccle questions
smile.png
Now I need to read through the other 20 pages and see what other answers I can find!

I feel like us D'uccle breeders should write a book!

The assorted variety d'Uccle pen I had several months ago produced some mostly black chicks, and I would live to know who their parents are

The chicks are fairly evenly black and white when hatched, but wind up being black with random white feathers around their head/neck/beard.

Roosters:
Mille Fleur
Self-Blue

Hens:
Mille Fleur
Self-Blue
Black Mottled

My Mille Fleurs produce Porcelain chicks sometimes, so they must be split to Lav..... that's another thing to figure in.

Bummer. Sorry about the surgery thing. I actually wanted to bring some birds to YOU

I can't hatch anything until 1/1/11. I promised no more birds until 'next year'. Better that way if this winter is as bad as last winter was. My youngest birdsa rea already unhappy with lows in teh 60's and we get down to 40's this weekend. I'll be putting some back in the brooder with a low-watt lamp... Not enough to be warm, just enough to help them keep themselves warm until they are more fully feathered. I have late millies, a lav, and some goldnecks.

Sorry for the slow reply, been a heck of a week

Anyway, I was wondering what you have laying right now, project or otherwise? I dont mind hatching through winter because I've got a 20 x 40 heated/air building all my brats go into during cold/freezing temps. I've got 2 rather large brooders as well, and I'm able to keep several chicks in each without over-crowding. I have some data sheets I made for breeding purposes and if you'd like, I'd be willing to tag, mark and hatch some birds for you, or even raise chicks you dont have room for. Just a thought hun, let me know what you think. The data sheets are pretty basic but I like them because you know exactally who's who, what's what

Grace, do you have any pics of your blacks?? Are you working on a black program or were these kido's surprise hatches? Where in OK are you located...I'm in the Joplin MO area, about 100 miles E. of Tulsa

Hi Misty!
I can get a picture of them. I only wound up keeping a pair (of the blackish ones in question). The pullet is old enough to lay now, in fact I think she started a week ago. But the cockerel is younger, because of being from the last hatch.
They were more of a surprise.... or at least not intentional.
I am in south east OK, by Durant.

Your a bit of a drive from me...We used to live in Ardmore, so I am familiar w/your area

Did these result from a mixed breeding of all your colors combine (I assume so from post)? I'm just curious as I'm using all the data I can to help set up a "dictionary" so-to-speak of blacks and *masking* colors that breed as visual...pattern and color-wise. LMBO!!...Did that make any sense at all???...That is to ANYONE besides me...

I'm gonna post some random 'dust bath pics' taken today of a few project birds and pures. I didnt get any new ones of my blacks, but will.

Sorry if I'm over-kill on pics, just thought I'd share with everyone. Feel free to critique away...add, advise, ect

This is what I'm calling a Blue Butterscotch roo. Blue/lavender color does not show up very well at this distance, but it is clearly present.

Okay, I've been to Ardmore many times

All these birds (there is only one of each) were in the same pen, so it was some combination that made those mostly-black chicks
Roosters:
Mille Fleur (split Lav)
Self-Blue

Hens:
Mille Fleur (split Lav)
Self-Blue
Black Mottled
