We have a sweet 7mo old D'uccle that has already started laying for a couple weeks over a month ago and then stopped. We later noticed her comb was turning purple when the cold set in, and she wasn't that active. We brought her in and noticed her muffs curl into her eyeball. We try to pat them down and we can tell it makes a great difference in her eating and drinking. We are thinking that she wasn't eating and drinking as much as she needed because of her visibility. We see no evidence in any sickness and she's definitely turning around with our assistance. What can we do about her Muffs in her eyes? They always go right back into her eye. Can they be trimmed without causing a worse problem?

Trim the muffs. I had this happen to one of my rooster one winter. Due to health problems I didn't catch it until it had been stuck in his eye for about a week. He ended up mostly blind from the irritation. So trim those feathers.
