D'Uccle Pronunciation

One person reported going to a poultry show in US, and asked a judge about the breed using the proper French pronunciation, and the judge said, here we say Dee-ookle.

Seriously?????!!!! Oh I’ve been way off! Ive slipped many times and have called my little Mille Fleur bantams DUNKLES.

It’s hard to figure out unless you’ve learned the rules for French language.
Very different from English.
There’s a lot of silent letters in French words.

Americans are notorious for mispronouncing all kinds of foreign names/words. For example, try going to Boise and pronounce it like the French do.....If you pronounce it 'correctly,' no one will know what you're talking about. I have one D'Uccle, so I have had to say this word often. I am going with Dee ookle. because that's what the chicken people around here say...

When I was interested in the breed, all the info I found that seemed legit was doo-clay, so that’s what I switched to saying.
Prior to that, I said dee-UCKle (like yuck without the Y)
