D'uccle Thread

I wasn't specifically talking about the hen, mainly the rooster. Add in the dominate black Mott gene which is what the blue hen has and see what colors will come from them.
i can't....thats not my hen lol. Sclark73 owns them. But i understand what you ment now...the roo isnt blue mottled because of the MF colors on him, that was why i said he was blue mottled split for MF most likely....as in mommy was one and daddy was the other so no not pure.

I'm going to get into the fray on this. I have a similar looking rooster, and a hen that looks to be mille fleur with way too much white. My rooster also has wattles that are way too large. Their first hatch produced two roosters that look exactly the same, another overly white mille fleur hen, and 2 black mottled that are mostly white. I'm fairly confident they are d'uccle, but obviously some mixed colors

But even to call them a split is pushing it. For example, if you breed a Porcelain to a Mille. you would get mostly Milles but some Porc's and they would both look pure. Anyone can chime in and add or correct me. If you then breed the "splits" you will still get a pure colors of each variety. The color you have is going to throw completely random. Mille with mottled is a funny one because no blue will breed true, they are actually a split of black/blue. Hope that's not confusing

Pretty chickens!

Clair is one of our favorite chicken's.. Here she is raising some babies

Didn't meant to start an argument with my new birds but I have really enjoyed the genetics lesson from you. I have Blue Mottled and Blue Mottled/Mille eggs in the bator(unrelated), although I know it's not a specific color for say APA standards. It's just going to be a fun project for my son for 4H.

If you breed a Porcelain to a Mille you will get all mille, split to porcelain....it is not possible to bred a Porcelain to a Mille and get porcelain unless the Mille was already split for porcelain, porcelain is double reccesive.

You have to breed MF to Porcelain then take the splits and bred back to porcelain to get some porcelain

Split is a visual Millie bird split to porcelain in the table below:
Porcelain X Porcelain = 100% Porcelain
Porcelain X Mille = 100% Split
Split X Split = 25% Porcelain 50% Split 25% Millie
Porcelain X Split = 50% Porcelain 50% Split
Split X Mille = 50% Split 50% Millie

Now blue is wonky it will not breed true, thats why we end up with BBS. D'uccle breed's have no S so it is B/B/GN there is only Blue and Black in mottled, the S is replaced by Golden Neck i believe...could be wrong?
Blue X Blue = 50% Blue 25% Black 25% GN
Blue X Black = 50% Blue 50% Black
Black X Black = 100% Black
Blue X GN = 50% Blue 50% GN
Black X GN = 100% blue
GN X GN = 100% GN

True B/B/S is
Blue X Blue = 50% Blue 25% Black 25% Splash
Blue X Black = 50% Blue 50% Black
Black X Black = 100% Black
Blue X Splash = 50% Blue 50% Splash
Black X Splash = 100% Blue
Splash X Splash = 100% Splash

Black will never parent Splash, Splash will never parent Black

Blue Mille Fleur is not the same as Blue Mottled
B/B/S in MIlle Fleur D'uccle colors as far as i know is Mille Fleur representing Black in the chart above, Blue Mille Fleur representing Blue in the chart, and Golden Neck representing Splash in the chart. So that chart would look like this.
BMF X BMF = 50% BMF 25% MF 25% GN
BMF X MF = 50% BMF 50% MF
MF X MF = 100% MF
BMF X GN = 50% BMF 50% GN
MF X GN = 100% BMF
GN X GN = 100% GN

Mille Fleur will never parent Golden Neck, Golden Neck will never parent Mille Fleur

So if the hen is a pure blue and the Roo is a Blue split to mille which http://www.edelras.nl/belgians/genetics.htm has this to say about Blue Mottled bred to Mille Fleur
Blue Mottled to Millefleur = ½ Black Mottled, ½ Blue Mottled
Pair F1 Blue Mottled to Millefleur = ¼ Black Mottled, ¼ Blue Mottled, ¼ Millefleur, ¼ Blue Millefleur

* May have problems with Mottled progeny having gold in neck hackles, etc, or too much black in neck hackles of Millefleur. The Mottled with gold in neck hackles are good for pairing back to Millefleur & Buff Columbian but not necessarily of Mottled show quality.

If the Roo is really Blue Mottled Split to Mille Fleur the results will be interesting. You could get Blue Mottled, Black Mottled, Golden Neck, Mille Fleur or some mutt colors....breeding back to the hen should give you a high rate of Blue/Black/GN. Breeding to MF would give you a lot of mutt colors and some MF.

Thank for all that useful info. So back to the original question, the rooster is a mix, not a split, it will throw mystery colors.
