D'uccle Thread

I agree. I think your baby is blue.
I also feel like a dolt; I kept the darkest 'lavender' pullet because she was molting and looked crummy when the show was going on in September. Now that she's fully feathered, when compared to the babies, she's looking blue as well.

I'm confused though, because my lav roo over lav hens threw all lavs. If one hen was actually blue, would she still throw lav babes with a lav roo?

And what would a white roo over a blue hen throw? I guess that would be the 'acid test' if there's a difference between what a lav or what a blue would throw....

On a totally unrelated note: I'm going to HAVE to enter the show January 15th. It's a d'Uccle special meet, so I have to enter as many birds as I can.

And I have to read up on rules. Tennessee's son hatched in July. I want to enter him as a cockeral, but since by then he'll be 'last year's bird' I may have to enter him as a cock. I've never had a show so early in the year before....

Ok, well I guess it's confirmed then, she's blue

LOL.....It's kinda neat we're coming up with some of the same colors living in 2 seperate states and with 2 seperate programs. Will be interesting to see what turns up with both since we have different genetics (Which is a Blessing in disguise, really).
As far as your blu pullet goes, that gives you the 1st chance to see what the cross will produce, but I'm guessing (w/o chik calculatr) you'll get blue from lav x blu breeding, possibly blacks which would be most excellent. As far as the WHITE goes, it will depend on if he's a dom white or rec white and what genes he has behind him. White can mask and block colors...it takes away from or covers "hiden" genetics. I suspect white over blue will produce either dirty/smutty/mottled whites (which is fine) or diluted blues w/rec wht gene, but dont hold me to that.
Now on the other hand, which ever way you go, or maybe do both, you will eventually be able to use those chicks from both the lavy and white breedings to breed together as the lav over blue is a 'split'. If it were ME, I'd use those "white blockers" in your program for other colors as well, ie GN's, creams-Lemons. Keep your best birds from both, breed them together and you'll be amazed I'm sure. Good luck at the show, it sure seems early and COLD, but thumbs up and kick some tailfeathers! What does TennJr look like? I dont guess I've seen him yet Lori.
PS: If anyone has any different knowlege on the crosses I'm proposing (genetics) then please step in and correct me. Take care, will be back a bit later on to catch up.

Nick spilled the beans, LOL. I think I'm now the proud owner of three D'Uccle chicks. Are they all Mille Fleur, you think? Anyone have any of the Brown Red D'uccles? Ideal is selling them now-these three came from Ideal via the feed store.

Hello again Cyn, How are you and the new crew doing these days?

The chicks are adorable, thanks for sharing them
They appear to be millie and possible blue millie (far left). I just love babies and watching them mature. Lucky Gal...I been looking for more millies.

Send more PICS!!

Misty, a blue mille would be awesome! I was looking for mille coloring, feathered legs and poufy cheeks, but didn't realize how different that one lighter one was till I saw them together-it was chaos trying to grab them out of the assorted bantam bin! Time will tell, of course. Was looking for porcelains, but they didn't have any that seemed to be that variety in all the feather legged bantams.

Cynthia The one little baby in first pic sitting off to the left "appears" from photo, to be blue. Especially since it's by the black in the center...color looks blue to me, so maybe you lucked out. Is there a big difference in them that you can see? The others appear to be Millie pattern, but the little black chikc is just going to be darker than the others. They are all adorable! If you decide not to keep them, you can send them all my way

Merry Christmas everyone.

That's okay, Nick! No worries!

I was honestly coming to this thread to post my pics and join our BYC D'Uccle club in this thread but as I skimmed all 123 pages, I finally came to your post, LOL.

Misty, I haven't been able to see the babies today. They're with my broody hen out in the coop and it will be a couple days before my DH lets me go out--we have 4" of snow and it's still coming down so he is scared to let me tromp out there and it taking care of it all himself. There is a definite difference in the gold/buff looking one and the really dark ones, but in a few days, as they feather out more, I'll be able to get updated pics and perhaps it will be more clear what I have here. I would really love a blue mille!

Well that's perfect! We welcome you and Nick both to the thread

WE LOVE PICS on this thread, so feel freeeee to post away!
I can sure relate to the snow (ice) thing...the past 3yrs we've been ICED IN, so I'm thankful for just a bit of snow, however either way, it can sure be a pain. Stay in where its WARM!!!
There are a lot of great breeders on here, but that's my personal opinion ( never matter'd b4
