DH is helping set up the bator. He's given in. JUST in the nick of time.... (not that he knows that)

I am hoping my eggs from Misty come tomorrow.

I'm hoping mine arrive tomorrow, too.
We'll be hatching buddies, AC!

The lav hen is currently setting on 8 eggs, and 6 candled with life in there. I'll put those in the bator, too.

I don't want broody 'catching' amongst the other hens. last year that particular 'illness' swept through EVERY hen, and THEY ALL STOPPED LAYING AT ONCE. Perfect weather and not a single egg being laid. I almost cried! I am determined to break broodies regularly this year.

My BLRW is broody right now and sitting one 6 eggs. She will be getting them taken away tomorrow though, because she is going to the Farm Show on Friday. Surprisingly none of my Silkies have been broody. (watch, now they all will!)

AC those are way to sweet! Sugar shock for sure! You guys are giving me spring fever early and that just makes cabin fever much worse!

I am excited for spring, my better 1/2 made a brooder for me on our enclose back porch.

Where he works they toss out 4x6 sheets of paper, he brought them home and layered them so
when it comes cleaning day, dry vac out shavings and pull up the top layer of paper. It seems to be coated, shiny.

I so desperately want to see a whole bunch of D'uccle's running around there!

With the cold temps on the insulated porch, we do have a heat lamp and this neat cardboard that is a good healthy inch thick(again, from the 'trash' bin) against the back walls to keep drafts down, also over the top of the pen where there is a roost and the heat lamp. They seem to be doing well and makes me feel better for MF's...D'uccles :0) Hope it gives you ideas!

Wanted: 1 handsome rooster a real Cock-a-doodle-doo

My youngest silkies, in November, both went broody after laying about 3 eggs each. I removed the nest boxes (and eggs, of course). I'll put the boxes back when laying starts again, but the mama showgirl, Princess Sophie, goes broody at the drop of ANY egg, so I have a small window for gettin showgirl eggs

All my original d'Uccles went broody last spring. Every single one of them. And the showgirl caught it from them, but never got over it.
I watching my 3 millies co-parent 20 babies and it was the cutest thing ever. Until the babies got a little size on them, and then they overwhelmed the moms. Those gals have't really gone broody since!

Spook I got your email the other day. I have 4 MF roos that are about 3.5 months old. They are starting to look very nice. We can send one to you, if you would like. I'll have hubby take some pics of the boys to see what you think.
