D'uccle Thread

I certainly won't laugh!

A plit is a feather that has one basic shaft, but 2 feathers coming out of it. Each side of the split feather can have it's own spine, so if you fon't look it seems like 2 feathers. You have to look close to see that it's from a single shaft.

My only other competition only has black mottleds, I think. They could've brought a lot more of them, but they didn't expect to see any other d'Uccles at the show. If they have other varieties, they will certainly have them at the Newnan show Feb 19th, since they are hosting and it's a d'Uccle state meet.
There were other d'Uccle owners there today who have various colors, but none were showing them.
There were black mottleds & millies in the juvenile show, though.

Hi, all. I'm trying to catch up after being deathly ill yesterday. Had a migraine start about 4 a.m. and then about 8 oclock, the nausea started and I was just wanting to pass out, I felt so bad. Had to go to the emergency room and didn't get home till 3 p.m. Was too drugged to look at a computer screen.

Lori congrats on the wins! Spook, that is a beautiful boy you have!

Teddiliza, its not something to be made fun of , asking about terminology, feathering etc. None of us give anyone a hard time when asking good questions like that. If we don't stick together on explaining what things are, we cannot breed to make the breed better.
I am pretty glad the Judge went to ask another judge (hear break for you or others- don't get me wrong when I say its pretty good) because the judge not being 100% positive he/she asked another. To me it says so much about the judge.

It was a beautiful set up with the D's, I was almost drooling...I say almost cause none were for sale and it made me frustrated! There was one that was such a beauty, deep rich coloring, beautiful muff and "turtleneck" appearance. You should be very proud of your D's.

I love shows. You can see just how much care, love and handling that these guys have had. All types for that matter. You walk up and talked to them and they understand what your talking about and just want to carry a conversation! Thank you for all of you that showed and share your knowledge with us, it is important.

Can't wait until next year, perhaps you will have some competition!

Cyn, so sorry to read that you have been so ill. Sounds like the storm moved out, barometric pressure changed and boom, you suffer. Bless your heart, a real trouper you are!

Thank you for the compliments guys, I'm honored and completely tickled!!! He is in quarantine for the time being and has a beautiful crow!

Cyn, I hope you are feeling better today. I get migraines, too and they suck hardcore!

Lori, CONGRATS on your wins!! Like mine, who didn't have competition, a win is a win in my book! Too bad about Orion though. I'm sure he will win once that feather is gone.

As for my new baby, it has two black spots on the back of its head. Now it has got me wondering if it is a MF and not a GN.

I wish they grew faster!!!

x2 on Cyn feeling better. I hate migraines!!

Thanks AC! I had enough competition to not get BoB. But I got RoB, so that's not bad!
And it fired me up to really work with these millies and get them all up to snuff. I've decided my New Year's Resolution should be to only sell millie eggs when my bator is filled to capacity. I need to hatch and select for foot feathers, then select for color until I get a nice set of hens with show-winning feet!

It'd be interesting if you got blue mille from this batch AC. It's not impossible...

My first chick hatched!
jumpy.gif

It's a cute liitle pale yellow chick. Now I have to be as patient as AC and wait to see if it's white.
The second one is zipping, but looks to be lavender or blue so far.
And the 3rd egg is pipped. I'm surprised. When I brought them in one was way far ahead of the others. I guess steady heat let some catch up once they were in the bator?

It's a good thing though, because it lets me put the bator back to rocking automatically a lot sooner for the other eggs.

AAAACK! Lori, you don't need to start keeping this resolution until AFTER you have sent me some eggs you know!
