D'uccle Thread

Trying to figure out what is going on genetically with some of the chicks we hatched as the results are slightly off from Henks calculator.
Crossing Lavender Roo over Black Mille Fluer or Blue Mille Fluer hens. I should get all black chicks but I got black with silver barring on them. I will see if I can get a picture of them up here.

Any thoughts?

^^Is this a cockerel^^ Sometimes I wonder...hasn't even attempted to crow, and at times the wattles and comb look lighter @ 7 wks old.

And he's looking for a home, located in Southeastern VA

I got some pics of my 5 Mille Fleur ages 4 - 6 wks old.

I'm guessing roo oh and my Partridge Silkie chick

As with any breed of chicken, if you get some babies that develop a comb, and some that don't it would be safe to assume that the ones developing a comb would be young roos.

Thank you NewHopePoultry and nathhowe I was hoping for 4 hens cause the roos will go back to my friend (that adopted my Ginger Red Silkie-Cinnabar) I got the fertile eggs from.
Her flock of Mille Fleur and Silkies are all beautiful. She gave me the eggs to try and build a flock of Mille Fleur and Silkie hens.
Next spring I'm gonna borrow Cinnabar back for a bit to get fertile eggs from him and my Silkies, and borrow 1 of her Mille Fleur roos to try and get fertile eggs from my hens.
I'm also helping her get her RIR eggs hatched.
I'm having fun.

And dad is noticing my chicken math is going haywire.

I may have a problem. I have 18 eggs ready to ship but I haven't heard from the buyer yet......Pretty soon they will be too old to be any good if I ship them. Has anyone had problems with their PM's or e-mails not going through from this site? My next problem: 4 broody hens. I think I'm seriously going to have to try the Ice cube trick on the next hen that wants to go broody.

Had one of my mille fleurs die yesturday. We think a stray or wild dog caused him and a silkie hen to die of heart failure. The other silkie from that cage and the chickens in the cages around that cage were all fine. He was a great roo, very nice and tame once you started holding him, he had one of the best beards outta all my bearded chickens. He will be missed. I was planning on showing him in lucasville ohio at the end of the month but he didnt have a leg band so i couldnt send in his entry. Ill find a pic of him later to show.
