D'uccle Thread

I have 2 project gals that are bators, but not mothers. And they REFUSE to quit being broody.

The black hen thought about being broody but I removed the nest boxes and threw her in the yard. She is really mad at me. She'd better get over it in time for the show....

A millie hen tried to set everyone off, but I locked her in the silkie coop for a couple of days and she got the message.... so far. If looks could kill, she'd have struck me dead by now. As it was I got endless LOUD lectures

every time I went to the coop.

Now I'm

that everyone holds off for just a bit longer.

I only have one MF d'uccle and I think she is not going broody soon. Matter of fact, she hasn't laid eggs in a week but I did change around the waterer and added a different feeder so maybe she is simply in a snit about that. I have a few mutt chickens old enough to go broody, luckily only one has and is sitting on 9 to 10 eggs until about the 25th. One of her sisters acted like she wanted to go broody but quit trying to sit the nest when I moved the first broody, and has since decided it's more fun to be out partying in the pen with the girls and the big Roo.

It gets even worse! Tonight when I went to close up the porcelain/mille fleur pen, one of my mille hens was sitting there on the eggs giving me the evil eye. I give up. But each broody gets no more than 5 eggs! At least I haven't broken my promise about not running my incubator! (Broodies don't count). So now I have 5 broody hens altogether, one going to hatch within 7 days, and the rest.....within 3 weeks from today. I swear the next broody is getting an ice cube to sit on! At least it gives me a chance to see how my current two roosters are doing with fertility and chicks. My first broody 'accident' of this year actually has the 3 males and 2 females with a few nice combs. (Sugardaddy's babes). Next due to hatch is 3 Jersey Giant eggs under my broody Porcelain from Ideal Hatchery within the week .

Kat's Silly Chickens :

I have 5 Mille Fleur age ranging from 4 wks to 6 wks old. My question is at 5-6 wks old does the roo have a bright red comb, 2 of mine do? Can someone help me with this?

Yup.

But if you post pictures we can tell you for sure!
