D'uccle Thread

I LOVE the Mille Fleurs the most but I do not have any yet!

I have one porcelain rooster, Sam-I-Am and he is wonderful! Can't wait to find a hen or two for him in the spring! Right now he is buddies with my easter egger rooster and happy to be part of the group (they have five hens in the coop with them). He came from Tractor Supply - I adopted him from another BYC'er here in Connecticut when her other two roosters kept beating him up. And yes, they ARE the perfect chickens for people with children ... very cuddly. He'd be a house chicken if I could pull it off with DH.

Nice face on the boy, huh? Looks like he ate using a feed bag!

Hahaha great picture, and a beautiful rooster. I wish my two roosters were that sweet! Argh...yet another breed goes on my list of chickens to consider getting! The decision just gets harder the more I look around lol.

Do the long foot feathers slow them down any when they're moving around? Chickens in my flock need to be able to move pretty quick because we've got a lot of predators hanging around, and they also need to be able to stay out from underfoot when the bigger hoofed forms of livestock are around...my goats love to investigate the chickens. I don't want them getting stomped because they are too clumsy!

I really think d'uccles are the child friendly chicken! Love the photo! I've got 3 d'uccle eggs from my little porcelain hen to go in the incubator on Wednesday. I'm hoping she lays one more before then.... She doesn't have very good porcelain patterning and she's missing 2 toenails but I love her the best! I plan on promoting the d'uccles here locally, so far everyone who has purchased another chicken from me has seen my porcelains and really liked them. They are my living lawn decorations/fertilizers/bug control.

It is really tough finding serious breeders who sell hatching eggs, a few of the websites and classified ads in poultry magazines I've checked no longer breed d'uccles, or if they do, they have none to spare. I'm going to work on building my own flock first, then I'll start learning how to breed for the standard in a year or two. Maybe next summer I'll have some hatching eggs to spare.

Here are our girls, Milly and Daisy. This isn't a very good pic of them... they look better these days since their feathers have grown back... now that my roo has more wives.
