D'uccle Thread

Hello! It's official: We have fallen head over heels for D'Uccles and their fantastic personalities. Now my son and I want to find a good breeding pair for his science fair project. I was hoping folks more knowledgable than I could help with a few basic questions so I can start my research on the right path.

First of all: Does anyone have a link to a site with basic D'Uccle genetics? We need a something to breed toward and a basic 'hypothesis'. We're open to suggestions on this!

Secondly (or maybe first, I don't know): Does anyone know of a good breeder who might be looking to retire hens/cockerals so that we don't have to start from scratch with the parents? Even if they weren't the same colors, I think that would be "okay".* We would study the genetics and make a hypothesis, hatch them out and see if we were right or not. I think that works for a 5th grade science fair project. We have a roo who is good with our LF flock but (as someone on here noted) he isn't very high quality standards-wise. We are purchasing a separate pen for this project with a separate roo.

*We are hoping to find a lemon bird and a black bird if we cross colors.

Please help a 5th grader and his bewildered mama?

EDIT TO ADD: The birds we acquire for this one time project would have an excellent forever home to retire in- my son takes very good care of his birds and we spend a lot of time outside with them in the evenings letting them free range.

What state are you in? I have a mille fleur hen, 2 years old.

I've nearly messaged you several times, chicken grandma! But I'm clear down here in KY and I have a MF hen with (I think, after researching) very nice conformation. I'd still take her, though, if I could get to her.

I could not find a good home for my duccle hen, so I want to buy a duccle hen to be a friend to mine. No luck!! Seems D'uccles are few and far between. May just get a cochin on Monday, but I would prefer a d'uccle if I could find one!

Just got D'uccle bantam chicks on the 17th. I couldn't believe how small they were. I got 25, but 2 died yesterday. The rest seem to be doing good, except for one little chick that is smaller than everyone else. She just seems a little out of it. She tries to follow the other chicks and eats when they do, but she gets run over a lot. I take her out and hold her a lot.

She's The one in front.
