D'uccle Thread

I am very new here, so I don't know if this question has been addressed before -what is the difference between golden necked and buff mottled duccles? I am unsure as to which I have

My d'Uccles and Booted Bantams that I got as chicks last March have started to lay:)

I haven't separated them out - there are porcelain, blue, mille fleur and white pullets in a pen with a porcelain cockerel.

I've loaded up an incubator to see what's fertile and what's not.

Meanwhile, the pen with porcelain pullets and one porcelain cockerel (eggs from Teddi) are growing out.

If anyone has a spare man (preferrably single and 50-60), please send him here to build MORE PENS!!!!!

My eggs from teddiliza are due to hatch Monday. I cannot wait to see the little fuzzies! Couple of coop modifications needed before then so DH will need to squeeze them in between his hunting forays. I haven't candled the eggs since they arrived because momma hen is VERY protective of "her" babies! Gotta love broodies! She was a life saver with the storm and loss of power for so long. If they'd been in the bator their chances would've been cut significantly!

Very pretty Yvonne! Your roo is particularly gorgeous. I love the contrast of the safest feathers against the lighter. Really makes the coloring stand out.

I can't wait to see pics of the babies! What broody breed is hatching them?

Hello - I'm new to the world of mille fleur d'uccles (actually new to the world of chickens as of June) Prior to purchasing my first few chicks I really tried to do my homework on the breed I was purchasing (ameraucanas). I'm embarrassed to admit I bought my mille fleur d'uccles in a "Oh my gosh whats that, is she for sale" moment. I was there to purchase a totally different breed but took one look at her and had to take her home. I know nothing of this breed. But from what I'm reading she should have a muff and beard, which she doesn't. (She's a pet, and adorable so no mater

) She may be my only bantam but she was head hen in 3 days. Is this normal, is the breed aggressive by nature? She makes the others wait until she eats and she pecks them until they give up their spots on the roost. She has befriended my RIR and the two of them are quite the team knocking my 3 Ameraucanas off the roost at night. During the day the 5 all get along great. I'm planning on adding 2 more hens (polish) to my flock and then I'm done. Will she ever stop pushing everyone around or is this just normal pecking order stuff? Man it's hard to watch the sweet ones get picked on. And I hear polish are very docile. Maybe I shouldn't add them? Any thoughts?

Hey Teddi! I have a Cochin x salmon favorolle (at best guess). She looks huge all fluffed out over them and is already very protective. Can't wait to see them! I'll get pics as soon as I see them.

generally they arent bad, sounds like just a normal pecking order deal, should be no issues once all settles down well.

as for the no beard and muffs. Are you sure she's a d'uccle? Booted bantams looks just like d'uccles but do not have the beard and muffs. If she's clean faced and has a wattle showing, my guess is you got a millie fluer booted bantam actually
